Short answers to the questions we get asked most often.
General
Does the recipient need an account or an app? No. They click the link and listen in the browser – on phone, tablet or computer.
How long does a message stay? 7 days; with Plus or Pro 90 days, with Business one year. After that it is deleted automatically. The date is shown on every listening page.
Can I delete a message later? Yes – in your account with “Delete”, without an account with the deletion link you get when creating it.
Can I see whether someone has listened to my message? In your account, every message shows whether and when it was last listened to. Nothing more – we record neither location nor device.
Where is the data stored? On servers in the EU. No sharing, no tracking. More.
Recording
The microphone does not respond. The browser has no permission. Click the lock icon in the address bar → Microphone → Allow, then reload the page. On iPhone also: Settings → Safari → Microphone. More under Troubleshooting.
Can I upload an existing recording? Yes: “Choose audio file” or drag the file onto the page. MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, WebM up to 3 MB (Plus: 40 MB, Pro: 60 MB, Business: 100 MB).
How long can a message be? 5 minutes, with Plus 15 minutes.
Plans and account
What does Speeeak cost? Recording and sharing is free, and so is an account with one widget. Plus costs €4.90 per month (personal), Pro €19 (for your website), Business €49 (teams) – all cancellable monthly. Pricing.
Can I cancel? At any time to the end of the month – in your account or at speeeak.io/kuendigen.
I forgot my password. “Forgot password?” on the login page – you get a link by e-mail.
Do I get an invoice? Yes, as a PDF in your account under Account → Invoices, monthly.
Website and WordPress
What is the difference between widget key and message ID?
The key (w…) belongs to the recording widget – visitors record something for you. The message ID belongs to a message – visitors listen to it.
My widget shows “This website is not allowed”. In your account, enter your domain under “Allowed websites” for the widget – or leave the list empty.
Do I need a data processing agreement? Yes, as soon as visitors give you data via widget or form. One click in your account. More.
Can I hide the Speeeak notice? With Plus: yes – in the widget and on landing pages.
Does the widget work with cookie banners?
Speeeak sets no cookies on your site. If your consent plugin still blocks scripts from speeeak.io, you need to allow it there.
Why do I have to enter my own mail account to send from Speeeak? Because e-mails from you should also come from you: recipients see your name and your address, replies land with you, and nobody can send spam via other people's addresses. Setting it up takes three minutes; without a mail account you use “Paste into my e-mail” or “Open e-mail”.
Why can't I play the voice message directly in the e-mail? E-mail programs do not play audio. That is why Speeeak sends a voice card; clicking it opens the listening page. More.
The voice card is not displayed. Outlook and Proton only show images after “Load images”. The link is always included as text in the mail as well.
